I asked fellow Curses anthology contributors to share some things about themselves prior to publication and those generous enough to do so will be appearing here for the next week or so.
Each entry gives a taste of their contribution, a little about them, how to contact them, how their story came about, and definitely a link to Curses (which you should purchase because it would make each and every one of us happy.
you do want to make us happy, don’t you?
i mean, considering what we wrote, you want us to know you’re a good person, right?).
And now, Molly Ertel’s Clover:
Clover didn’t take it as a sign at first. She simply had the misfortune of picking a shopping cart at Safeway that had a wonky wheel. It happens. But the cart rattled stainless steel bone on stainless steel bone as she pushed it.
How the story came about:
Everyone suffers difficulty and tragedy in life. The question is, how do you deal with it? You can blame it on bad luck or say it’s God’s will. You can play the eternal victim, assuming things will never get better. Or, you can try to break a streak of bad luck, as Clover the protagonist of my story, did. She wasn’t heroic in any way. She fumbled about for answers to the series of unlucky, possibly paranormal events that had been happening to her. She cleared off her coffee table, which was also her deceased grandmother’s travel trunk, and rummaged inside it. She found an old journal with an entry dated Friday, April 13, 1945. Would it contain any answers? You’ll have to read “Clover” to find out.
