We installed a trailcam a while back.
And, oh!, the things it tells us.
Behold Sydney, a young female coyote.
Long ago and not far away, Susan and I would hike in local nature preserves. Our after hike custom was visiting an ice cream shop featuring locally produced and sourced, handmade ice creams.
Delicious.
We never finished our ice creams. Usually an inch or two of the cone and some melted ice cream therein remained.
The shop backed up to some woodlands.
Our after ice cream custom was to toss what we hadn’t finished into The Woods, the two of us holding hands, and saying “For the Old Ones.”
A prayer, perhaps.
More a thanks giving, to let them know they’re not forgotten, as in The Shaman’s Chapter 124 “The Frog.”
We still give thanks and remember.
Sydney’s making sure we don’t forget.
