A new and frequent late night visitor to Chez Carrabis is Scully the Coyote.
Scully came by one night when I was out filling the baskets with dog food, peanuts, and cookies.
Shy but hungry, I heard Scul before I saw her. She looked pregnant at the time, and I made it a point to drop a healthy pile of dogfood behind the large tree you see in the center of the frame and back in the shadows.
I talked softly during this time. Softly and wanting to put welcoming in my voice.
“For you, Gentle Mother,” I said, and went back inside.
Scully tentatively approached my offering, ever ready to bolt at the first sign of danger.
There was none, and she cautiously dined.
I’ve made it a point to put food out every night since, and she returned then stopped.
My concern grew.
Until one night I saw her and heard little yips in the distance.
Ah, young ones.
I’ve put out an extra helping ever since.
