I asked fellow Legends – Monsters That Go Bump in the Night anthology contributors to share some things about themselves prior to publication and those generous enough to do so will be appearing here for the next week or so.

And now, DL Mullan’s The Call:
Ring.
Ring. Ring.
Another call in the middle of the night haunted the household. As the woman stood in front of a dull green kitchen wall phone, her wrinkled hand shook in fear. She pulled the receiver off the hook, placing it to her right ear.
“Hello?” Like always, she heard scratching on the line and faint whispers. She shuddered as she plugged her opposite ear with her finger. “Hello? I cannot hear you, there is too much static on the line.”
Ding, she slammed down the handset with a scared swiftness. She hoped her ploy worked and the phone would remain silent.
How the story came about:
I read an article about a teenaged girl from the Cleveland area who fell to her death doing a dangerous stunt at the edge of an old grain elevator. This was before “urban exploring” became the popular phenomenon it is today. Around that time, I watched a YouTuber’s video of an abandoned Ford Motor Company factory. The two events just came together for the story.
