I asked fellow Legends – Monsters That Go Bump in the Night anthology contributors to share some things about themselves prior to publication and those generous enough to do so will be appearing here for the next week or so.
Each entry gives a taste of their contribution, a little about them, how to contact them, how their story came about, and definitely a link to Legends – Monsters That Go Bump in the Night (which you should purchase because it would make each and every one of us happy.
you do want to make us happy, don’t you?
i mean, considering what we wrote, you want us to know you’re a good person, right?).
And now, It Was No Stroll in the Park:
When I first met Mendel, I’d just started grade six. He was tall, very thin and a little bent, with a few tufts of gray hair protruding from under his large black yarmulke.
How the story came about:
I’m a little younger than Mendel, the protagonist, in this story, ‘It Was No Stroll in the Park’. Like Mendel I spent the first few years of my life in what was then the poor, Jewish, Kensington Market neighbourhood of Toronto. Mendel in the early 1950s is a tough kid who enjoys the company of other tough kids. His life takes an unusual turn when he finds himself in the company of strange little man, Shraga, who claims he’s a lost gigul, a Jewish reincarnate. Shraga says he can’t understand how or why he’s wandering the streets of Toronto. Shraga is trouble, lots of trouble, and Mendel would like to be rid of him.
