Well Fed Raccoon

We like to believe we do The Wild well here at Chez Carrabis.

We take great pleasure in chatting with our woodland friends, learning their likes (so far, everything) and dislikes (so far, none).

As a result, our Raccoons tend on the…well fed…side.

When I was a kid, it was called “husky.”

Not sure I’d ever call a raccoon “husky.” They, wiser, than I, might defer my statement to ignorance or merely Two-Legger stupidity.

The Wild, unlike Two-Leggers (and only because we’ve lost our sense of the rhythms and the tides), prepares for seasonal change. Raccoons travel through The Sacred Land of Hiberna (read carefully. Not “Hibernia,” but “Hiberna”) but do not linger. Food insecurity – and don’t you love how politicians et al euphemise catastrophe?

When I was a kid, people went hungry.

Hungry I understood. I may have been husky, but I also knew hunger. Feel hunger too often and you end up husky because you never know when you’ll eat again.

But Food Insecurity?

I have no f’ing clue what that means. Is the food insecure? Is Food worried about something?

See someone hungry? Easy solution. FEED THEM!

See someone experiencing Food Insecurity? Do I give them a lock for their larder?

I wish the world was as well fed as the Raccoons who visit us.

But here’s a funny thing about The Wild vs Two-Leggers.

The Wild doesn’t horde food. Store it, yes, horde it, no. The difference is found in answering the question “How much do I need? How much will I need?” and now we’re back to understanding the rhythms and the tides.

Everything in a circle, everything in cycles.

Everything.
