A severed witch’s hand changes the face of Eastern Europe forever.Eric and Julia seek tree grafts on the outskirts of their medieval eastern European village as a summer storm gathers. Sullya, a witch hiding among the trees, grabs Julia. Eric swings his axe and severs Sullya’s hand from her arm. The witch seeks refuge in the deep bole of an old oak. Her hand falls onto the same oak and crawls up the trunk to join her. Eric wants to flee but Julia, believing they’re safe thanks to the now heavy rain, torments the witch. Sullya curses them, their families, their crops, their livestock, and their village. Soon crops wilt, livestock die, and much of village falls ill. The village priest, Father Baillot, seems ignorant of church ways and proves ineffective against the curse. The village elders seek help elsewhere, specifically from a distant priest, Father Patreo, who knows the Old Ways as well as the New. Patreo is out of favor with the Church because he makes no effort to hide his belief that progress comes from exploring all paths, not just those the Church decrees acceptable. He and Verduan, one of the village elders, investigate and encounter witchcraft, devil worship, murder, a coup d’etat, and the clashing of three great cultures. What they discover changes the face of Eastern Europe forever. “Verduan and Patreo are the Middle Ages’ Holmes and Watson. Cadfael watch out!”

How many heartbeats does it take to change the world?Ben Matthews is a mathematical linguist studying spontaneous languages at Columbia University in New York City. He spends a relaxing late-May day bonding with his son, Jiminy, at New York City’s South Street Seaport when the East River to Brooklyn and beyond becomes a white sand desert. A sirocco wind raises waves and whips ice cream wrappers, crumpled napkins, visitor guides, ticket stubs, and other ground level trash intown. Three creatures, their images shimmering in the heat like a mirage, walk across the sand towards The Battery and TriBeCa South. Ben is knocked down and loses track of Jiminy as people race to safety. “This masterpiece delves into the intricate interplay between trauma, healing, and perception.” – Dennis J. Pitocco, Chief Reimaginator, 360° Nation

If you ever wonder how to entice that pretty thing across a crowded room, how to recognize if someone’s attention is genuine, how to let someone know you’re both interested and interesting, how to know if someone’s toxic by watching how they move, or how to flirt without getting hurt, this book’s for you.Carrabis shares insights gleaned from over forty years as an anthropologist, psychologist, language theorist, neuroscientist, therapist, and pizza maker (guys, want to impress someone? make them dinner). His real life stories are examples of demonstrating good behavior, recognizing the early signs of bad behavior, how to enter a relationship, how to make it last, and how to recognize a relationship’s ending before the end is painful. Topics include
Carrabis’ studies and practice brought him all over the world. The wisdom in these pages comes from years studying and teaching at the university level, studying and learning from aboriginal peoples across the globe, and blending these experiences to help people navigate difficult daily and life situations. Carrabis writes in multiple genres, often blending them in bizarre, fascinating ways to reveal our inner truths. These stories are from those published 2016-25 in on- and off-line magazines and anthologies, and comprise most of the reader favorites. Reader Comments from the original publications:“It’s hard to choose a favorite, but I want to call out a few, and I’ll tell you why: … The Last Drop (tight; bleak; great tone), The Tomb (strong character development)” “I liked some of the stories more than others (which is to be expected), but want to mention Mercy, which was a particular favorite.” “Mercy was the only story that actually freaked me out. It was creepy and disturbing in all the best ways, and it could easily be turned into a full novel on its own, or even a fantastic scary movie.” “Don Quitamo Sails, by Joseph Carrabis, which is a delightful tale of high adventure between father and son.” “In Rachel, Above The Clouds, While Flying, by Joseph Carrabis, I was captivated with the exchanges between Benny and Rachel— endearing resolution. The bantering is relatable, ‘“Something light”, ha ha. Funny, Raech. You’re so close to the sun you could take a bath in its radiation and you want to hear something light?’” “The cherry on top was the story of The Little Knitty Dragon by Joseph Carrabis which just blew me away.” “I wish there were more stories by Joseph Carrabis. I enjoyed Mercy…” “Carrabis’ Tales of the Woods are children’s stories for adults.” “I cried reading The Little Knitty Dragon, so beautiful.” “The Boy in the Giant deserves multiple readings, so many layers to that one.” “Sanctuary is f*ing perfect!” “I laughed out loud reading My Wife’s An Alien.” “Steam left me weak and sobbing. I felt everything the main character suffered.” “MorningSong and The Magic Tassels must come from the same place as Carrabis’ The Shaman. Beautifully done.”
